Pacific Electric Cars, A Pictorial Journey: 1911-1953
Stock #: KB10715
Author: David Garcia and Joseph Strapac

List Price: $70.00
Karen's Price: $59.95

The Pacific Electric Railway, organized in 1901-02 by Henry Huntington and carried on after 1911 by a new corporation of the same name, owned by the Southern Pacific, was closely aligned with Southern California’s history and economic development. This book addresses the forty-two years -1911 to 1953- that the “new” Pacific Electric Railway operated electric-powered passenger and freight trains in southern California. The authors had access to extensive photo files illustrating PE cars and their operating environment and selected the most effective for use in this book, with three major goals: to illustrate all the major classes of cars and locomotives acquired by the new PE after 1911 (as well as providing representative images of “legacy” cars inherited from predecessors), to provide detailed, informative picture captions that can both stand on their own and provide the seeds for future research. Pacific Electric Railway Historical Society Monograph, No 2
Stock #: KB11243
Author: John L. Whitmeyer

List Price: $39.95
Karen's Price: $34.95

The Pacific Electric Railway Historical Society, in association with Golden West Books, is pleased to announce the first reissue publication of Monograph No. 2, John L. “Jack” Whitmeyer’s “Remembrances of the Pacific Electric Railway.”

This completely revamped volume continues on the pioneering work by late PERHYS founder Jack Finn, who studiously and meticulously interviewed dozens of Pacific Electric employees, railfans, photographers, historians and more before his death in July of 2006. Jack interviewed Jack Whitmeyer in 1998 and compiled a great collection of images and hand-drawn maps by to publish the original volume.

We have augmented the original work with more than 100 images, many drawn exclusively from the legendary Craig Rasmussen Collection – and Craig served as the image supervisor on this reissue. This volume focuses on Jack’s early years in the Eastern District, growing up in Riverside-Arlington, and his experiences before and after the war with the Pacific Electric, including a chapter on RPO service between Los Angeles and San Bernardino. “Remembrances of the Pacific Electric” by Jack Whitmeyer is a must-have addition to any important Pacific Electric Library.
