Iron Feather: Corporate History of the Western Pacific and Sacramento Northern Railroads
Stock #: KB11215
Author: Jeff S. Asay

List Price: $79.95
Karen's Price: $69.95

The Western Pacific Railroad, from its inception in 1903 until the Union Pacific takeover in late 1982, was always fending off one crisis or another, managing to remain independent through luck and clever financial maneuvering. "Today, much of the WP has been abandoned and some has been sold, but the original Bogue main line from the Bay Area to Salt Lake City remains intact and in operation. This book also relates the parallel story of the Sacramento Northern Railway, an electric interurban that Alvin Krech acquired for the WP in the 1920s for its freight traffic base. Sacramento Northern suffered the same precarious ride as its parent company, and was finally merged into Union Pacific along with the Western Pacific. Hard cover.

Robert Richardson's Narrow Gauge News; Colorado Rail Annual No. 21
Stock #: 13152

List Price: $44.95
Karen's Price: $39.95

From 1949 until 1958 Robert "bob" Richardson was the editor and "abandoned lines reporter" of the Narrow Gauge News. Seventy-three mimeographed and six printed issues were mailed to those who sent self-addressed, stamped "No. 10" envelopes to the "World's Largest Narrow Gauge Museum and Motel" at South Alamosa, Colorado. Circulation was limited, and today copies are almost impossible to find.
We have reprinted these as a book with over 150 photographs made from Bob's original negatives, many of which have never been published before, now preserved in the Western History Collection of the Denver Public Library. This fascinating account ofthe final years of the San Juan and Galloping Geese, snowfighting, abandonment hearings and last runs. The struggle among railroad officials, employees, railfans and then-indifferent public over the survival of the slim gauge is recounted rom Bob Richardson's unique perspective.
Bob has written an introduction describing how he chronicled the declining years of Colorado's narrow gauge empire over four decades ago. The Narrow Gauge News played an unrecognized role in building public support for the surviving narrow gauge we treasure today.  Hard cover.

Just East of Brewster at Harmon, branches radiated northerly to Cleveland and southernly to Zanesville, with it main track continuing eastward towards the Ohio River at Warrenton where it turned north towards Mingo Junction and Steubenville, or south to its terminus at Martins Ferry.
